Divisions

There’s a new experimental feature: “Divisions” (or “Training Groups”)

If you enable this in the Preferences screen, each player belongs to a group.

Initially they are all in the normal group. But on the player screen you can use the Δ button to shift them to “1”, “2”, or “3”. The division you set will show on the player list screen too.

When picking games, vsBadminton will normally only pick players who are in the same division. The division will also show on the game list. If a game has players from different divisions (because the game or player has been edited, or because there wasn’t any other choice) it will show as “–”.

It probably doesn’t make sense to use this unless you have a lot more players than court space, as it strongly constrains what games can be picked.

One use would be for a club with a league team which should practice among themselves, and a pool of other players. Another would be to run an internal tournament with promotion and relegation.

It’s an experimental feature, so feedback is requested. If it is popular, we can add more capabilities around it, such as choosing the number, names, and representations of the divisions, allocating particular courts to a division, displaying results tables per division, or automatic promotion/relegation.

If you disable the preference, the division assignments will be remembered, but will not be visible or have any effect until the preference is enabled again.
